On 22 April, 2019, the “Belt and Road” Beijing Cooperation Forum hosted by World Finance Forum (WFF), the Center for BRICS and Global Governance (CBGG) and the Reinvesting Bretton Woods Committee (RBWC) was successfully held in Beijing. This forum is the 2019 Spring meeting of the World Finance Forum with the theme “Openness, Innovation, Development, Inclusion and Sharing”. Gao Peiyong, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and academic member of CBGG, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

Gao Peiyong said that the current development of the international economy cannot replicate or follow the previous model of economic development. Looking at the development model of the world economy over the past few decades, we can see that two things are not sustainable: firstly the development of one country or some countries is premised on the non-development of other countries; second, the development of one country and some countries comes at the expense of the development of other countries and regions. When economic globalization comes, we need a new order of international economic cooperation, or a new pattern of international economic development. This new pattern, according to President Xi Jinping, is to insist on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Countries around the world must jointly seek development opportunities and paths and enjoy the fruits of development on such a large platform. This is our extremely profound experience on the “Belt and Road” initiative today.
