The Center for BRICS and Global Governance
The Center for BRICS and Global Governance (CBGG), headquartered in Beijing, is an independent and non-profit international think tank. It aims to bring together the BRICS countries and the world’s top policymakers, academics and industry leaders to focus on the profound changes in the world economy, improve global economic and financial governance and provide forward-looking intellectual support and policy advice on strengthening and improving global governance.
Our mission is to provide comprehensive research and critical analysis on the core issues of global economic and financial governance and present policy recommendations in a global perspective, including raising public awareness and participating in global economic and financial governance.
Our vision is to promote the creation of a fairer and more robust and sustainable global economic order and financial order, lift the representation and voice of emerging market countries and developing countries in international financial arena and reduce global inequalities and imbalances, making people enjoy the benefits of world economic growth more equitably.
CBGG has established a good relationship of long-term exchange and cooperation with many international organizations, financial institutions and international think tanks, and jointly organized various seminars and conducted academic exchanges and cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the New Development Bank(NDB), the Silk Road Fund (SRF), the US-China Business Council , the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Brookings Institution, Vargas Foundation (FGV), Observer Research Foundation (ORF) , Moscow State University(MSU), University of Johannesburg (UJ), Emerging Markets Forum (EMF) and others.
In recent years, the research reports developed by CBGG experts on strategic topics such as the “Belt and Road Initiative”, RMB internationalization, digital currency, cross-border payment, consumer finance, and the convergence of rules in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and the Great Bay Area have been endorsed by state leaders, and some policy recommendations have been well received and fed into policy making by national and provincial authorities in China.
CBGG organize and host regular events every quarter, including closed door seminars, large-scale summits, international forums, business lunches, round tables and press conferences around key and hot topics in the economic and financial sectors in China and the world. We invite influential and representative guest speakers from the government, industry, universities and research institutions to have candid exchange of views and in-depth debates on relevant issues, thus forming high-quality policy recommendations and opinions for national and provincial policy makers.
CBGG consists of an office, an academic research department, an international exchange and cooperation department, an editorial and publishing department, and a human resources department, having governing committees like the Academic Committee, Advisory Committee, Administrative Committee and academic researchers like Senior Fellows, Young Fellows and Guest Fellows. The research department of CBGG has carried out a series of research reports over the years, and publicly shared the research results with the society.
CBGG is currently a cooperative consulting unit of several ministries and local governments in China. CBGG is a member unit of the Think Tank Cooperation Alliance of the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Innovation Base initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 12th BRICS Leaders' Meeting.
